What is Fellaini’s best position?

As we come off the back of a Fellaini double in yet another 4-0 win, this time against Crystal Palace. We ask again what is Fellaini’s best position? It’s not so long ago that some fans didn’t even want him in the squad, they still might not, but for all the snide jokes at his expense over time he’s never let it bother him. Well not publicly or on the pitch as one thing you can not question is his commitment and ability to keep trying for the team as well as doing whatever job he’s asked to do. Technically of course he’s not great, we all know that but some of the stick he first got in that first season under David Moyes was not on. No player should have to go through that from our fans without a very good reason.

Personally I’ve never got on the guys back, that is not to say I haven’t been disappointed in some of his decisions and performances at times, but I could probably say that about nearly every United player I’ve seen at some. Well, maybe not Mr Consistent Denis Irwin, although he did kick the ball away and get a red card at Anfield in 1999 remember.

Back to Fellaini, David Moyes tried him as a midfielder when he first came and that clearly didn’t work. Although not a lot did of things did with the team under Moyes unfortunately. Louis van Gaal got a bit more out of him Marouane in a left sided attacking type midfielder role at times but it was never going to work long term. It was obvious to me that the only place you could use him was back in his old Everton role scoring goals up front, still as a squad player mind due. As I said, I’ve never has a problem with Fellaini and I’ve stuck by him. Thankfully when Jose came in he did the same and he seems to have got the best out of him back in a midfield type role. Which I never thought would happen but thankfully it has paid off. Long term if we’re going to conquer Europe once more we’ll have to come up with an alternative, but for now as always, keep doing what you have been doing.
