A new Premier League campaign

Hello and welcome to another season of Manchester United predictions with us the Stretford Enders as we look forward to seeing United, Jose Mourinho and the season ahead. Unfortunately due to holidays and a couple of the lads being out in Skopje in Macedonia for the Super Cup we didn’t get any predictions done before that game. I’m blaming myself for not being organised to be honest after a summer off not doing the predictions, just forgot really.

I actually made a decent profit overall with my betting last season, mostly through in play. This was thanks to developing a little strategy using Betfair’s cash out function (details here) which lets you lock in a profit while the game is still going on. Anyway I will come back to that after a few games have been played and explain how it all works. If you have a Betfair account you can then follow the same method if you like.

Marouane Fellaini is action against Real Madrid

Anyway, we are definitely back and we’ll all be in the Stretford End this coming Sunday for our opening Premier League game of the season vs West Ham. Predictions can be found below and it comes as no surprise that we have all gone for a United home win on the opening day. Hopefully our new signing Lukaku will be on target on his Old Trafford debut. To be honest though, I’d just be happy with any sort of win to get our campaign under way and off to a winning start.

We certainly weren’t at our best the other night against Madrid, well maybe the first ten minutes or so and then a little towards the end. Overall though, we were easily second best all night, so very well done Real Madrid on another trophy. Maybe we’ll meet again sometime in the future now we are back in the Champions League.

8 August UEFA Super Cup Real Madrid N 19:45
RESULT = 2-1 LOSS (Casemiro 24, Isco 52 – Lukaku 62)

Disappointing performance, started well but after 15 minutes Madrid took control of the game and we just couldn’t get the ball off them. No surprises then that they got a couple of goals which they deserved. Mourinho changed mid-way through second half and we created a bit more being direct and got back into the game but it wasn’t to be.

United 4 vs West Ham 0

12 August Premier League West Ham United H 16:00
RESULT = 4-0 WIN (Lukaku 33,52 Martial 87, Pogba 90)

The Stretford Enders pre-match match predictions:
Myself 2-0 United
Stuart 2-1 United
Oliver 1-0 United
Barry 3-0 United
Claire 2-1 United
Kevin 2-0 United

Fantastic display and performance. Loads of chances created and some quality goals scored. Nice to see Javier Hernández back at Old Trafford, all be it playing for the Hammers but glad he had a poor game. Same can’t be said for Lukaku and Matic, how good did those two look? Anyway, I don’t think I could have had a better opening day of the season myself, beers before and after the game and a resounding United win!

Swansea 0 vs United 4

19 August Premier League Swansea City A 12:30
RESULT = 4-0 WIN (Bailly 45, Lukaku 80, Pogba 82, Martial 84)

The Stretford Enders pre-match match predictions:
Myself 2-1 United
Stuart 2-0 United
Oliver 2-0 United
Barry 1-1 United
Claire 2-0 United
Kevin 3-0 United

Wow! Another 4-0 victory and more goals for Lukaku, Pogba and Martial, but what stood out for me more was two more assists for Mkhitaryan after his two last weekend as well. I thought it was a slow game at times but that we controlled it for long periods. Thankfully we scored right on half-time but it wasn’t until we made a couple of subs mid-way through the second half until more goals come. Then we carved the Swans apart with three goals in five minutes as we torn into them with quick breaking football, good passing and calm finishing. Top of the league!

26 August Premier League Leicester City H 17:30
RESULT = 2-0 WIN (Rashford 70, Fellaini 82)

The Stretford Enders pre-match match predictions:
Myself 3-1 United
Stuart 2-0 United – well done
Oliver 3-1 United
Barry 3-0 United
Claire 2-1 United
Kevin 2-0 United – well done

Some of you out there might have been hoping for another 4-0 victory, of course that would have been nice again but it wasn’t to be. Going into the International break though it was key for us to get another win by any means possible so that we remained top of the league. Thankfully we did that against a better opposition than our last two games against West Ham and Swansea. Fergie always kept his players happy and that is key when you’re on the bench, as you want them performing and doing a job when you come on and that’s what we have done in all three games so far. Previously Martial had come off the bench to score, this time it was Rashford and Fellaini’s turn. We of course were the better team but it was a struggle, more so once Lukaku had missed his penalty. We got the job done in the end though. Three wins, ten goals scored and none conceded. Not a bad start.
